THE TEMPLATE

A template is a design or model used as a standard for comparison. In few days back, i've heard so much of evils happenings in the society. The more i tried ignoring them, the more they increases. I really want to talk to the movies industry as have discovered that they are the major influence in the society. I wonder what Nigeria movies industry is doing that they can't contribute to reducing social vices or solving national problems.

Writers are not just writing to entertain, they are inspired to cause changes. As a literature students i've read several novels and poems and i've seen how impactful they were to me and many of my friends. The fence by Lanrie Peters on taking a decision, Myopia, Ambassadors of Poverty by P.O.C. Umeh are inspiring poems i studied in school. Though i was excellent in literature but i didn't studied to pass WAEC, i studied to learn from novelists and poets. This inspired me becoming a writer too. But writing was effective in the days people love reading but it less effective in this age of movies.

What makes the white better than the black is not the colour but the way their channel their efforts.
The white had foresight and in the days of books, it was recorded but in this age of movies, they are producing movies from the books. When the blacks are waiting for a prophecy from some religious leaders, the white are creating an impressions in the heart of the citizen on the change they want through movies. While the white watch movies to get entertain and inspired, the black watch it to get entertain and while away time.

Martin Luther King Jnr proclaimed a black man becoming the president of American. For many years the prophecy was like a shadow until the movie industry came on board. Then as a kid, a film came out although i can't recall the title but i could recall the story line. I'm not that good at remembering titles of movies but the lessons from them are usually fresh. In the new release movies was a quest between a black man for the first time competing with the white for the position of the President. The movies reveals the intelligent of this black man above that of the white. The election debates was too excellent that Americans were ready to give a black a trial.

Blacks in Americans couldn't rise to the challenge to contest until Barrack Obama rose. From a little documentary i watched, i saw the white rejecting Obama at first and even his Church Pastor rejected him. This took him out of the religion setting and move to the street to gain acceptance. The Church was meant to be a pillar to his rising but for racism sake, they lost him. The homosexuals, drug addicts, the prostitutes and hooligans in the society are the ladder that took him to the place. But the origin of a black man becoming the president of America is from a movies.

In recent time, i was watching a old Ghana movies and i saw a movie i presumed was produced in the early 2000 how a sitting President refuses Party Politics but was ready to sacrifice his life to save Ghana. This became a call to responsibility for the government of the country. The political class started thinking of better ways to play the game. Today, Ghana is a highly developed country in many areas ahead of Nigeria. At least if not for anything, the uninterrupted power supply.

Nigeria Nollywood with their collaborations with Ghana Ghollywood has done more evil than good. Instead of addressing national issues, they introduces social vices. Our children are corrupts and lost their innocent so early because of home videos. The popular Akin and Pawpaw movies has turned children to be naughty. Though it is a comedy but it is without morals. Everyone want to speak like Jenifa but the sense it, people can see how hardworking she is. Although the movies makes them laugh, there are a lot to learn. The best movies i watched as a kid is "Akeelah and the Bee" (2006) and a quote from it delivered me as an introvert suffering from inferiority complex to a bold and intelligent individual. This quote was my deliverance

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am i to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?"

How did adult movies came into Nigeria that we have to ask our children to go inside or send them on errand. Do you think the children are senseless? They wanted to partake in what the parent are doing. Okay, if we say we switch it off, their peers speaks about it everywhere and they hear it and get interested. Today, you don't need to pay for pornography popularly known as blue film, they are everywhere on our adverts, social media, movies and YouTube. Then we cry there are no more virgins, there will be scarce because we have destroy them with our greed to acquired wealth through the industry.

Now, the useless thing i see on our screens is the success of Yahoo secondary school drop-outs who uses our young girls for rituals. The bad government, traditional rulers and religious rulers actions and inaction have promoted the vices. The government is starving the graduates of jobs and making education of no use. It is no longer intelligent count but connection is important. We no longer reward diligent but we rewards dubious acts and called it smartness. We don't know how this young guys acquired wealth yet the traditional heads are giving them chieftain title and the society celebrate the money and not the diligent. The Church promotes this with grace and favour gospel and give these young wasted destinies pastors, elder or deacons. Until we get a template of a better Nigeria and promote it, we will keep roaming round the poverty and decays circle.

Let our adverts, movies, books, church, traditions and philosophy promote a template of the Nigeria we want. A Nigeria void of homosexuals, Full of virgins, void of money rituals, greed, money laundering, kidnappings and bombing. A country where God dwells and the character of the people reflect it. A country where the leaders really cares, where the Pastors really builds men, where the traditional rulers rewards impactful service and not money. A country where Lokoja becomes like London, Lagos like New York, Abuja like Washington Dc. I know some day we will see the country of our dreams and it begins with me and you painting it template.
